Before I continue the Mullen/Meyer spread, I felt it necessary to explain d-linemen techniques and how the numbering system works. As a football coach, it is important for all coaches and players to be able to describe what is happening on the field. Instead of just saying "He was inside shoulder of me" the coaching world has come up with a numbering system to describe the positioning of defensive linemen. Below is an example:
We use an odd, even, and 'inside' term to define alignment on the field. Starting from the center of the field, at "0," we count outward. Odd numbers are outside "shades" of the offensive player, inside "shades" are denoted by an "i." All even numbers represent a "head-up" position on the offensive player.
This numbering system simplifies teaching, explanations, and helps coaches be able to make on the field adjustments. If your team has not put this system into place, I highly recommend it.
Thank you
Also, I wanted to extend three thank yous out to the internet world. The first is to Nate Albaugh and
www.chiefpigskin.com Coach Albaugh is a pleasure to work for and has an amazing site, which I am a contributor to, and I encourage everyone to check out his site.
2nd I would like to thank Coach Barry Hoover for his help promoting my blog, and suggestions on how to add more content/video to it. Coach Hoover has one of the best sites on the internet, and take a look at his in-depth discussion over the Oregon offense and how to defend it at

Lastly, and most importantly, I would like to thank my wife Christine for her patience, support, and undying dedication to her husband with the illness of football. Through hard work with both of our dreams come true.
Coming up next...... Mullen/Meyer Spread Trap Game
Your passion and commitment to football is shown through your players and your undefeated season defensive. I have never seen anyone hold a team at the 5 yard line as many times as you have. It is impressive to watch. I support you as long as you "win." Kidding!
